It’s time to give the Sunday Poll a break.
Instead, how about a little jaunt down memory lane with current assistant coach and former player Ryan Coghlan.
‘Cogs’ has a large collection of stickers on his suitcase! A well travelled man.

Fred Harbinson has made another deal today acquiring sniper Brodie Reid from Burnaby for Brent Vandenberg. Reid scored 52 goals as an 18-year-old last season and was a member of the silver medal winning Team Canada West at the World Jr. ‘A’ Challenge this season. Brodie is committed to Northeastern for the 2009/2010 season.
Brodie will be in Vees silks for tonight’s game against Merritt and is a safe bet to be playing alongside Curtis McKenzie and Denver Manderson, his linemates from the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge.

Interestingly, the Vees original leadership group from the start of the season have all now been moved. David Andreassen is back in the AJHL, Nathan Westover has resurfaced in Burnaby after being traded to Drumheller, Perdicaro is playing with Cowichan Valley, and now Vandenberg is in Burnaby. Devon Krogh has been given an ‘A’ to round out the new leadership group.
Here’s Head Coach and General Manager Fred Harbinson on today’s acquisition. The Coach’s thoughts are brought to you by Ironman City Subaru in Penticton.

Following a 5-3 loss to the Cowichan Valley Capitals last night, the Vees were on the ice today for a extensive workout. The club went through a rotation of physically draining drills for 45 minutes, before having some puck time at the end of practice.
Fred Harbinson talks with us today about last night’s game and today’s practice.
Also of note, I mentioned on the broadcast last night that Vandenberg was wearing an ‘A’ and Manderson the lone ‘C’. I had suggested that perhaps sole possession of the captaincy had been awarded to Manderson, but that is not the case. The BCHL has told the team that they can only have one ‘C’ per game, so the Vees will have Manderson be captain for home games, while Brent Vandenberg will wear the ‘C’ on the road.

Well, a 6 game stretch without a regulation loss came screeching to a halt last night at the SOEC as the Vees were upended by Anthony Perdicaro’s Cowichan Valley Capitals. The former Vees Forward who was traded to Drumheller two weeks ago (before landing in Cowichan) had a goal, an assist and a pair of penalty minutes in his second game as a Capital.
Though the Vees looked solid at times during the match, the Capitals were without question the hungrier team, and set the tone physically from the outset.

I’ll be at practice later today where there will likely less puck time than usual (SKATING).

Anthony Perdicaro returns to Penticton tonight with the Cowichan Valley Capitals in town for the only meeting of the season between these two clubs.
Perdicaro ended up in Cowichan Valley after being traded to Drumheller, AB for Erik Slemp, and requesting a move back to the BCHL. His rights were acquired by the Capitals for Nathan Westover (another recent member of the Vees, who got moved to Drumheller) who was swapped for Matt Ridley by the Vees. Confusing!
‘Perdy’ plays the role of pest very well. He can score, he can hit, he certainly can agitate, and although we haven’t seen it this year, he can fight.
Here is one of the East Rockaway native’s best tilts as a member of the Vees against heavy-weight Tyler Barr (Merritt Centennials) from last season. This is an epic scrap nearing 2 minutes in length. ‘Perdy’ hung in there pretty good!

Half Man, Half Bull, All World - Vees 17-year-old Forward Curtis McKenzie has been named to the CJHL Prospects Game in Summerside, Prince Edward Island.
To say Curtis has had a successful season to this point, may be the understatement of the year. McKenzie currently leads the Vees in goals (13), and points (28) in just 22 games played, earned a ‘full-ride’ scholarship to Miami of Ohio earlier this season, won a Silver Medal with Team Canada West at the World Jr. ‘A’ Challenge, has been named an ‘A’lternate Captain of the Vees, leads all ‘91 born players in BCHL scoring, is tied for the league lead with 4 Short-Handed Goals, and is currently on the NHL watch list as a ‘B’-Grade Prospect for the ‘09 Entry Draft.
Add the CJHL Prospects Game to his long list of accomplishments this season, and expect a BCHL All-Star appearance in Vernon as well!
Way back in the Pre-Season I was expecting big things from C-Mac, and he has obliterated even my lofty expectations.
He should have ran for Prime Minister!
