Eli’s Exit

January 5th, 2009 · No Comments

Vees 20-year-old Forward/D-man/Enforcer Elias Grossmann has asked for a trade.

Fred Harbinson went public with Penticton’s worst kept secret today. Eli’s decision came Saturday upon his second consecutive healthy scratch. Eli started the season on Defense then was moved up to Forward midway through the season with the improved play of Colton Jobke and others on the back end.

Eli wants a larger role, and Penticton isn’t a great fit right now, with Fred Harbinson teaching and grooming a young and talented group this season.

The trade deadline is Saturday…

My conversation with Fred following today’s practice is below. Also there is more reaction to the news on Monday’s Radio Program (which is also below). Coach’s thoughts are brought to you by Ironman City Subaru in Penticton.

National Rankings

January 5th, 2009 · No Comments

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks and Vernon Vipers remain ranked in the top 8 in Canada in the newest CJHL National Rankings.

The pair atop the Interior Standings are the only BCHL teams in the top 15, while Coastal clubs Victoria and surging Cowichan get honorable mentions.

Vees Add D-Man

January 5th, 2009 · No Comments

The Penticton Vees have acquired D Kaare Odegard from the Canmore Eagles of the AJHL for future considerations.

Kaare in Canmore

Just like Vees F Erik Semp, Kaare (pronounced Core) is 18 years old, committed to the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and played his Midget Hockey in Red Deer. Odegard was 4th in team scoring in Canmore, and is currently riding a 5 game point streak.

The deal means the Vees now have 7 regular defenders, as Elias Grossmann hasn’t played on the blueline for quite sometime.

The Vees are now at their roster maximum of 23 players.

If Today Were Feb 23…

January 5th, 2009 · 2 Comments

The regular season would be behind us and the playoffs set to begin.

Here’s how things would look for the Vees and the rest of the Interior Conference.

(1) SALMON ARM - 1st Round Bye - to face winner of (4) vs. (5) in best-of-7

(2) VERNON - 1st Round Bye - to face winner of (3) vs. (6) in best-of-7

(3) PENTICTON vs. PRINCE GEORGE (6) - best-of-5

(4) WESTSIDE vs. TRAIL (5) - best-of-5

GOLF SEASON: QUESNEL & MERRITT

NOTES:

The Vees haven’t lost to the Spruce Kings all season, yet haven’t beaten the Vipers.

The Warriors have beaten the Smokies 4 times in 5 games, but have dropped 3 of 4 with the Silverbacks.

Merritt’s Golf Courses open before Quesnel’s.
