NCAA Hockey on Sportsnet, Kroshus on the Tube?!

February 1st, 2009 · No Comments

Gregg Drinnan over at Taking Note (the top Major Jr. Blog in Western Canada in my humble opinion) has this programming note:

Rogers Sportsnet Pacific is going to provide coverage of the 57th annual Beanpot tournament from Boston. Two games are set for Monday (Feb. 2), with Boston University playing Harvard at 2 p.m. (all times Pacific) and Boston College meeting Northeastern at 5 p.m. The tournament final is scheduled for Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. . . . If you don’t have access to Sportsnet Pacific, check the listings because I believe the Boston College-Northeastern game also will be on Sportsnet East, with the tournament final on East, Ontario and Pacific. . . . According to a Sportsnet release, “The rosters for all four of the New England-based college hockey teams include 24 Canadian-born players.”

Vees Alumni Eric Kroshus is on the Harvard Roster.

Vees Forwards Ryan Johansen and Brodie Reid are committed to Northeastern, who haven’t won the Boston Tournament in ages.

Former BCHLers at the event include:

HARVARD: Freshman F - Eric Kroshus (Vees Alum and Camrose Kodiak), Freshman F - Daniel Moriarty (Alberni Valley Bulldogs and Melville Millionaires)

BOSTON UNIVERSITY: Freshman G - Grant Rollheiser (Trail Smoke Eaters), Senior F - Brandon Yip (Coquitlam Express)

NORTHEASTERN: Sophomore F - Wade MacLeod (Merritt Centennials), Sophomore F - Tyler McNeely (Coquitlam/Burnaby Express and Surrey Eagles), Sophomore D - Drew Muench (Vernon Vipers and Humbolt Broncos), Junior G - Brad Thiessen (Merritt Centennials, Prince George Spruce Kings and Penticton Panthers)

NHL Quotes of the Week

February 1st, 2009 · No Comments

Some call it ‘Insomnia’, I call it time to hunt for random hockey information on the internet.

Here the top NHL quotes I found last night, errrr… At 4 this morning.

“I told all the boys after, thanks. It’s been a long time”

- DALLAS STARS Goalie Marty Turco after collecting his first win in Joe Louis Arena after posting a (0-8-2) record in his previous 12 starts in Hockeytown.

“It’s a debacle of monumental proportion”

- EDMONTON OILERS Coach Craig MacTavish following a 10-2 home loss to the Buffalo Sabres following the All-Star Weekend (they had fun with this one in Calgary).

“I think that’s probably the problem with his back… He was taking that money to the bank”

- DETROIT RED WINGS Coach Mike Babcock on Henrik Zetterberg missing Thursday’s game with the Stars after signing a 12-year, 72 Million Dollar Contract Extention.

“That’s good. Now I’m the top scoring European on the team”

- CALGARY FLAMES Goalie Miikka Kiprusoff taking a humourous poke at the Flames roster, after he was notified he was credited with an assist in the Flames 5-2 Win over the Sabres. Kiprusoff is the only European on the team.
