Each week the BCHL anoints a ‘GAME OF THE WEEK’ and promotes it on the league’s website to attempt to stir up some excitement and/or Pay-Per-View orders.
While many times the ‘GAME OF THE WEEK’ turns out to be the ‘weakest of the games’ (as the selection seems random some weeks), other times the monkey pulling names out of a hat at the BCHL’s headquarters in Burnaby is right on the money.
So while the stats are completely out of date and the promotional interviews coming Wednesday are nowhere to be found, the league has pinned the tail to the donkey dubbing tonight’s second straight game between the Vees and the Silverbacks in Salmon Arm as the ‘GAME OF THE WEEK’.
With the playoffs on the horizon, momentum is the holy grail. While 3rd would be nice for the Vees, or first would be a feather in the cap of the Silverbacks, position doesn’t mean much this year. Vernon and Salmon Arm will get byes. Westside and Penticton will start at home. P.G. and Trail will start on the road. This we know.
The objective remaining for all the playoff bound clubs in the Interior is to generate as much momentum as possible moving into the playoffs, and to create doubt in the minds of opponents. The Vees have begun to do this in Salmon Arm, another win tonight would really change the dynamic of the two clubs as they march to the second season.
