Decisions, decisions.

Fred Harbinson has given each of his goaltenders a start through two games of the second round. Sean Bonar was solid in a Game 1 4-3 OT victory for the Vees, While Jordan White allowed 5 goals Saturday Night in a loss where the Vees looked out of gas.

What would you do??

Sunday MVP Poll

February 15th, 2009 · No Comments

With the Awards Banquet this Thursday Night at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, and our Awards preview Vees This Week Show coming Monday, now is a good time to quiz the masses who should be the MVP.

Denver Manderson, when in the line-up has been the MVP, the only problem is that he only managed to suit up for 35 games in a Vees uniform this season after starting the year in the OHL and getting injured in late January.

Curtis MacKenzie has been ‘Mr. Everything’ for the Vees, scoring, fighting & playing physical while earning an ‘A’ and then a ‘C’ through the year. Is he the MVP?

Garrett Milan has steadily improved to the point where he now has a shot at winning the scoring title for the club as a 17-year-old, 140 pound rookie. Amazing.

All other members of the team are long shots as a lack of consistancy or a late arrival to Penticton hampers many of the other candidates.

Now it’s your turn to vote!

Net-Minding

***DISCLAIMER***

The following post contains elaborate statistical breakdowns and a seriously high nerdy-ness. If you don’t know a GAA from a S%, it’s time to pick up a National Enquirer, read about aliens, and get back to the blog tomorrow!

Sunday’s weekly poll question asked about the Vees Goaltending situation (”Who is the Vees top Goalie?”) and seemed to hit a nerve with Vees Fans and Blog Surfers as 147 votes were cast in just 3 days.

Here’s a look at the results

GoaliePoll.jpg

Bonar had a huge edge in votes early but Whitie’s backers have been getting at it lately.

Here’s a look at the statistical breakdown of their last 5 starts each

Jan20GoalieStats.jpg

- The Red Highlight shows White was yanked from the 5-2 loss to Salmon Arm

- The Green Highlight shows White’s ’strength of opponent’ is much higher than that of Bonar’s. White’s opponents have a higher winning percentage and are higher scoring teams, though Bonar has seen more shots in his last 5 starts (because White was pulled vs. Salmon Arm after 42:12 of the game)

- The Yellow Highlight shows straight up netminding stats that don’t take into consideration the opponent. Bonar has a superior S%, and GAA, but White is holding teams to over 2/3rds of a goal less than they are averaging on the season.

- The Blue Highlight shows Bonar gets more offensive support from his team that White (because they are playing weaker teams), though both goalies have got more offensive support in their last 5 starts than the season average.

It will be fun to watch the crease down the stretch as Bonar a White battle for ice-time.
