Former Vees Captain Brett Hextall scored his 1st career NCAA goal last night, as the North Dakota Fighting Sioux beat the top ranked Colorado College Tigers.
Hextall captained the 2008 BCHL Champions, was drafted in the 6th round by Phoenix at the NHL Entry Draft, and has his mug all over the BCHL’s marketing efforts (yep, that’s him hoisting the Cup on the BCHL’s homepage).
(While the beard is gone, he’s still rocking a serious mop that would even make Devon Krogh proud)

Way to go Bretter!

Jordan White was smiling ear to ear in the Nichola Valley Arena. Come to think of it, so were Murray Maxwell and Al Formo - who represented the only present links to Jordan’s last stint in Penticton 3 years ago.
Just after midnight in the wee Sunday morning hours Jordan was acquired in a 5-team, 8-player deal that involved the Merritt Centennials, the Cowichan Valley Capitals and a team in both the AJHL and the MJHL. The Vees surrender 20-year-old Camrose native David Andreassen (off to the AJHL) and 19-year-old rookie Goaltender Anthony Borelli (to the MJHL) in the dizzying exchange.
But, while the addition of White most certainly improves the strength of the Vees club, the club looked plenty weak on the ice in an embarrassing 4-1 loss in Merritt where the visitor seemed to feign interest and lacked any sort of intensity.
Sean Bonar got the start for the second straight game (that likely won’t be happening much anymore), as White worked the gate on the Vees bench in his ‘08 Vees debut. Odds are strong the easy-going former Portland Winter Hawk will start Wednesday in Powell River - the second of five games for the Vees on this eight day road trip. Perhaps we’ll see glimpses of why Al and Murray were so happy today!
Here’s my conversation with Jordan today prior to the game with the Cents.

Zac Dalpe is looking very comfortable playing NCAA Hockey.
The Ohio State Buckeyes just completed their 2nd weekend hosting Lake Superior for a pair of games, and Dalpe made a big splash for the home side.
On Friday Night OSU lost 7-3, but Zac registered 8 shots on net and assisted on the first goal of the game (incidentally scored by former Vernon Viper Hunter Bishop).
Saturday Zac was on fire scoring a pair of goals (the 2nd into and empty net), adding an assist and being named the 1st Star of the Game as OSU won 4-2.
Zac is part of an OSU line-up featuring fellow BCHL grads Hunter Bishop, Erick Belanger, Taylor Stefishen and former Vees teammate Cory Schneider. Vees Defenseman Devon Krogh is off to join BCHL contingent next season.
Zac will be on ‘Boston Pizza Vees This Week’ tomorrow night.
***UPDATE***
Dalpe was been named the CCHA Rookie of the Week for his 4 point effort last weekend.
