The ‘Banner Image’ for the Vees Blog is of a mural in Penticton, that honors the 1955 World Champion Penticton Vees.
The 1955 Vees represent, without question, the high-water mark of hockey in Penticton. After a Western Canadian Championship (Patton Cup) in 1953 and Canadian Championship (Allan Cup) in 1954, the Vees were sent to the World Championships in Germany to represent our nation following a 1954 Canadian loss in the finals by the East York (Toronto) Lyndhursts to the USSR. The Vees advanced to the Gold Medal Game and defeated the Soviets 5-0 to lay claim to the title of World Champions.
With the formation of the Vees current ownership group in 2004 the team name was returned to ‘Vees’, a decision that honors Penticton’s rich hockey history.
In the mural created by Glenn Clark (which is based on a photo), the Vees are depicted at Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany as World Champions. The mural is located on the West side of Ellis Street, North of Nanaimo Avenue in Penticton.
So, i guess the ‘Banner Image’ is a photo of a mural based on a photo… Confusing, but fitting!

Its Great to see the Junior Vees keep ties with the Senior Vees from the 50’s - I see the Junior Vees are now playing with a Replica of the 1954 Vees Jersey! Great to see!

Hi Ryan. great blog. Thanks for the efort. One small correction on yor description of the mural… the team is shown at the historic Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. Krefeld is where the tournament was played, quite a ways west of Berlin.
